Here’s a couple of really interesting videos. I’m an admirer of Jay Leno and his automotive passion – boy that guy can buy cars…. These two videos show him driving the new Mercedes SLS AMG around Beverly Hills. A nice short movie, but the more interesting of the two is the Behind The Scenes vid showing how the cameras were rigged and what the gear was that they used to shoot it all. It’s an interesting watch, especially as most of the gear used, I either already own or could get my hands on pretty smartish. Don’t be put off by the big production crews and multiple cameras / sound devices. The cost of all this kit is coming down all the time and with an investment of a couple of thousand in some good sound recorders and a brace of other stuff, the only limit is your imagination. I’m hoping to get my hands on some ‘suicide’ cameras soon to use on both cars and also aircraft and white water kayaking, if they’re durable enough and we’ll be able to see how the footage cuts into stuff shot on the Canon 5D Mk2. Meanwhile, listen to the big V8. I can’t help but think that if it had been shot at 3.00am with someone anonymous behind the wheel, it might have been just a bit quicker, though nothing like as legal..
